He started his artistic creation after many years he spent in his own family of artists – his daughter, son-in-law and other relatives are artists. His creative career begun when Ivan was already adult and experienced. The sculpting gave him a new zeal for life, and through new knowledge, and experience it fills him with new positive energy. Ivan finally found himself in sculpture and thanks to it he can express the ideal of aesthetic and ethical feeling and a broadly conceived harmony of the positive values of life.
He finds inspiration from sudden moments, which can capture in a space the unrepeatable perfection of a three-dimensional world of curves and various shapes of human faces and especially female bodies. Also great inspiration for him is biblical and ancient Greek myths (Pegas, Unicorn, Atlas, David etc). His small studio in countryside cottage in Vysočina region also assists to inspire him, because it is full of peace, serenity and unity of artificial and natural. Ivan specialized in figure and portrait study, he portrayed already more than 50 heads and busts of famous historical persons. He had already several exhibitions in the Czech Republic, and now he is represented by Blue Blood Gallery only.
Ivan usually creates his sculpture from different materials, like cast composite, wood, bronze and even stone. The main point for Ivan Kotek are uniqueness and exclusivity – he creates only unique pieces, even when he casts a bronze sculpture, he produces only one exclusive piece of art.
